Program overview

Welcome to the "Newcomers in Tech” program – a transformative 12-week online program in collaboration with Venture 2 Impact, under the Mariam Assefa Fund, World Education Services.

Join us for this exciting 3-month virtual program, which combines both asynchronous and live lectures and will allow you to upskill in your selected high-demand tech field and gain the leadership skills you need to land your next great job in tech as a newcomer to Canada. Our classes range in topics from data analytics, cybersecurity, networks, and Python, to leadership training. We also offer 1:1 support tailored to you, and share with you job opportunities. Upon successful completion of the program, a digital badge will be awarded to you.

CRITERIA

  • Participants must be a resident of Canada and eligible to work

  • Participants must identify as immigrants or newcomers. This can be identified by the number of years you've been in Canada, priority will be given to recent newcomers.

  • Participants must have work experience in tech, and applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. 

  • Participants must be able to dedicate the necessary hours per week. Depending on the selected course, this can be up to 10 hours per week.

  • Participants must be seeking to make a career move in tech. 

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: February 2nd, 2024

  • Program Duration: February 12th to April 12th 2024

  • The program goes on for 12 weeks and is fully online.

Format:

  • Leadership: Virtual, live every other Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:30 PM, EST.

  • Technical: self-paced (with check-ins)

Technical programs

We offer a selection of technical programs that vary in occupational field, technical skill sets and number of hours required to complete. Below is the selection available. All technical programs are online and self-paced and include a combination of text-based content, video-based content, labs, assignments and tests.

Badges and certificates of completion

Each technical course has tests and a final exam that all participants must successfully pass with a minimum of 70%. Each completed course will earn the participant a badge that verifies the learner from Cisco Network Academy, our technical program partner.

Participants who attend and are engaged in the live leadership program will also receive a leadership certificate of completion from Scale Without Borders that verifies that the learning has completed the program.
